Big cleanouts can feel overwhelming, especially when life is full. But small, consistent steps can lead to big, meaningful change.
Introducing the 5x5x5 Decluttering Challenge: a simple, doable way to reset your space and reclaim peace—just a few minutes at a time.
Here’s how it works:
Choose 5 Places in Your Home
Choose five small areas—a drawer, closet, corner of a room, bag, bin, or countertop. Keep it simple.
Discard 5 Things from Each Place
Each day, remove five items you no longer need, use, or love from one of your chosen areas. Put them in the trash, a donation pile, or (if you need more time to make sure you really want to part with them) a 'Donate Later' box.
Repeat for 5 Days in a Row
Just 10 intentional minutes a day. That’s it. No perfection. No pressure.
✨ By the end, you’ll have cleared 125 items from your home—and probably a little mental space, too.
Pick Your 5 Spaces
Choose places that feel cluttered but not overwhelming. Think: nightstand drawer, pantry shelf, purse, bathroom cabinet, toy bin. The key is to pick SMALL spaces that are filled with unaddressed clutter. Think of areas in your home that you frequent often, but don't typically get around to cleaning.
Set a Timer for 10 Minutes
This is key. You’re not organizing—just removing. No time to second guess! The goal is to move quickly and see what stands out to you imeadiately.
Let Go of 5 Things
Trust yourself. You know what’s lingering, unused, or taking up unnecessary space. As quickly as you can, try to find the 5 items that are the easiest to remove from that space. Decide if you would like to throw them away, donate them, or save them in a "Donate Later" box. Again, you want to move quickly. Try to finish all 5 spaces in the 10 minute timeframe (but if you go over, that's okay!)
Repeat for 5 Days
Rotate through the same areas each day, or choose five new spaces in your home to tackle. Keep it flexible. Remember- the goal is to declutter QUICKLY by identifying things that you don't want, need, or care about.
Reflect & Celebrate
At this end of this challenge, you will have gotten rid of 125 things in your home. Celebrate that success! Notice the space you’ve made—not just physically, but emotionally. Small steps add up.
Decluttering isn’t just about less stuff—it’s about more peace, clarity, and freedom. By removing things from your home, you will find that you have more mental energy to focus on what matters most.
Even spaces you don't see often can weigh on your mind. The more you are managing (even subconsciously), the less freedom you have to explore and enjoy your life.
And the beauty of this challenge?
You don’t need a free weekend or a full overhaul. You just need a few intentional moments, repeated with grace.
This isn’t about perfection.
It’s about presence—choosing to make space for what supports the life you actually want to live.
So take a deep breath, grab a basket, and let go of just five things.
Small steps. Big shifts. One day at a time.
Keep it simple,
-Ashley 💛
